We’re delighted to welcome Ursula Burns – The Dangerous Harpist back to Connollys of Leap for a very special evening of music, storytelling, comedy and performance.
An award-winning Belfast harpist, composer, songwriter and comedian, Ursula has spent her career taking the harp far beyond its traditional boundaries — into theatre, dance, circus, comedy and magic.
She has flown through the air with her harp, performed on stilts and even appeared as a living figurehead on the Lagan currachs.
This is harp… but definitely not as you know it.
Ursula’s connection with Connollys goes back to the 1990s, when she played here with Watercress.
The connection runs deeper still – Paddy McNicholl later toured with Ursula around the release of her second album, Spell.
Now she returns to Leap with Good Ursula; Bad Ursula, bringing together decades of music, stories and a completely unique approach to performance.
Described as “one of the most captivating artists on the contemporary music scene” and as a performer who “redefines the limits of harp music,” Ursula has built a reputation for turning expectations of the instrument completely on their head.
Her work draws on Irish musical traditions and her O’Neill family heritage while moving freely through original songwriting, storytelling, humour and theatrical performance.
She also brought her wonderfully unconventional approach to a huge television audience on Britain’s Got Talent, reaching the semi-finals.
Ursula’s latest work explores Ireland’s lost harping traditions and the stories behind the music, bringing together history, humour and plenty of tunes from her critically acclaimed album The Secret Melodies of Trees.
Expect the unexpected.
This is not your traditional harp concert.
