SurfSide 61 is a celebration of the golden age of instrumental guitar music — bringing the unmistakable sounds of early ’60s surf music and British instrumental rock to Connollys of Leap.

Surf music emerged from Southern California in the early 1960s alongside the booming surfing craze, defined by its twanging guitars, driving rhythms and reverb-soaked sound.

Across the Atlantic, a similar movement was taking hold in the UK, led by The Shadows, who became one of the most successful instrumental groups of the era with five number one hits between 1960 and 1963.

SURFSIDE 61

Guitarist Stephen Housden formed SurfSide 61 to present authentic versions of the music that inspired him and a generation of guitarists.

Stephen toured the world for many years as a member of Little River Band and has played alongside an extraordinary list of artists including Glenn Frey, Christopher Cross, Dr. John, Warren Zevon, John Entwistle of The Who and Albert Lee.

Expect a night of classic instrumental guitar music, surf sounds and some serious playing.
