30 YEARS OF BASSBIN

Bassbin is hitting the big Three Oh.

Having sold out their Dublin anniversary night, Bassbin are bringing the roughneck sound of Drum & Bass and Jungle to Connollys of Leap for a very special West Cork edition.

Founded by Rohan in 1996 with the aim of getting Jungle and Drum & Bass moving in Ireland, Bassbin grew from a club night into a collective of DJs, MCs and producers, a weekly institution and an internationally respected record label.

The label helped push Irish producers overseas while releasing music from some of the most important names in international Drum & Bass. Bassbin nights travelled far beyond Dublin, reaching London, Birmingham, Manchester, Berlin, Athens and Amsterdam, alongside regular appearances at Sun and Bass.

Through it all, Bassbin developed a sound that moved with the newest waves coming from the UK while never forgetting its Jungle roots.

ZERO T

Zero T was just 16 when he first talked his way onto the guest list for Ed Rush at Dublin’s Mean Fiddler. Before long he was behind the decks himself and had become a Bassbin resident.

More than 25 years later, Zero T – formerly Zero Tolerance – has four albums, countless EPs and releases across many of Drum & Bass’s most respected labels.

Career highlights include curating FabricLive 52, collaborating with Noam Chomsky and remixing Goldie, Dillinja and Lemon D. His 2022 album Kilburn was created with blind jazz pianist Andre Louis, aka Onj.

His other projects include Searchlight, a live jazz and soul collaboration with Beta 2, and his broken-beat alias Bruk Rogers.

ROHAN

Rohan founded Bassbin in 1996, initially as a club night and later as a record label.

He also ran Selectah Records in Temple Bar and created Switch, one of the legendary club nights of Irish dance music folklore, while broadcasting on Power FM and Raidió na Life.

Through Bassbin he released music from emerging artists including Breakage, Alix Perez, Random Movement, Equinox, Fanu, Fracture and Neptune, alongside established names including Calibre, Digital, Seba and Paradox.

After playing around the world with Bassbin and at nights including Valve Sound System, Metalheadz, Rupture and Movement, Rohan moved to West Cork in 2010.

Now the time has come to bring some Bassbin magic to Connollys.

DON ROSCO

A Dublin DJ with deep roots in the Irish electronic scene, Don Rosco has been behind the decks since the 1990s and was a member of the original Bassbin crew, with production credits across a number of releases on the label.

His musical world stretches from Jungle and UK Hardcore to Juke, Indian classical music, Krautrock and beyond.

He has hosted a weekly show on Dublin’s legendary Power FM for 25 years and Ireland’s only dedicated Footwork radio show on Dublin Digital Radio, alongside appearances at Electric Picnic, All Together Now, Open Ear and Fuinneamh.

NAPHTA

Naphta began spinning Jungle on pirate radio in Dublin in 1994 and played a pivotal role in Ireland’s emerging Drum & Bass scene.

Following releases on Bassbin, Lightless and Ruff Revival, he released two Democracy Now albums through D1 Recordings, combining uncompromising electronic production with politically charged sampling and sound design.

CHORD MEMORY AKA GENIE

Chord Memory aka Genie emerged from Ireland’s electronic music scene in the 1990s and became one of the country’s first women Drum & Bass DJs.

After getting her first decks in 1999, she was introduced to the Bassbin crew and played one of her earliest gigs at their legendary Refuge night before joining the Bassbin resident roster.

Since then she has played across Ireland and internationally, with support slots for DJ Storm, DJ Flight, Mantra and Sherelle, alongside appearances at Open Ear, Another Love Story, Fuinneamh and Beyond The Pale.

Her monthly Dublin Digital Radio show continues that journey through the past and present of bass music, always with a proud nod to her roots.
